Question regarding email templates and custom entity

I need to create an email template in CRM using an "out of box" entity (i.e. cases) and fields from a related custom entity.

I couldn't quite grasp from the documentation if this was possible.

Could I create a "case" email template and then use the {} to capture fields from a related custom entity? I know the directions stated to use "global" template.

Where you able to make that, i need information from two out of box entities besides my custom one
